Following the signing of Petr Cech and the ensuing Community Shield victory over Chelsea, confidence is soaring in North London and many observers feel that this could be their year.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the new season, Henry said that he still feels that the Gunners are short in attack but with the addition of Benzema, Arsene Wenger’s side will finish the season as champions.
"Yes, Arsenal would win the league," Henry explained when asked what impact Benzema would have at the club. "I think if you get Benzema, not only will you challenge for the league, but you also challenge for the Champions League.
"They need that type of striker who can be different to Olivier Giroud. Him alone as a striker all season, he is very good at what he does but you need to have that type of striker who can stretch a defence, a guy that can go in behind."
Chances of signing Karim Benzema
While Arsenal’s chances of signing Benzema may still be slim, it is without doubt their best shot of landing the French international for some time.
The arrival of Rafael Benitez at Madrid following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure may not be particularly inspiring, but the biggest factor in a potential sale could be his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese superstar is being groomed for a centre-forward role, where his main attributes such as his finishing ability, heading and quick short-burst movements are best utilised.
As such, should Ronaldo move up top and Isco, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale play as the attacking trio just behind him, where would that leave Benzema and his first-team prospects?
