Thierry Henry picks striker he would most like to partner now; chooses Liverpool's Christian Benteke

Arsenal legend Henry was recently asked which current Premier League striker he would have most liked to play with. His answer may surprise a few.

Thierry Henry has, while speaking to talkSPORT, suggested that of all the strikers in the Premier League, he would have most liked to play alongside Liverpool summer signing Christian Benteke

Benteke signed joined the Merseyside outfit for £32.5 million from Aston Villa in July - as reported by the BBC - and was immediately handed the no.9 shirt before scoring a stunning goal on his debut in a friendly against Swindon Town.

The 24-year-old had struggled for most of the previous season, for form and fitness, but following Tim Sherwood's arrival at Villa Park he experienced an incredible resurgence.

He finished the campaign with an impressive 13 goals in 26 appearances, with his second semester form enough to earn him a big-money move to Anfield.

Henry, who scored 228 goals in 376 appearances for Arsenal, believes the Belgium international's playing style would have complimented his own abilities more than any other forward in the league.

Speaking to talkSPORT show 'Drivetime', he said: “When someone asks me a question like that [who would you most like to play with] I think straight away, ‘can I play with him? Can he play with me?’

“I could have played with Benteke because I could have played off him. He can hold up the ball then I could have wandered around him. He takes all the knocks and kicks and I’m on the side."

He also commented on the player's importance to Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League again this season, suggesting that his goals could be the difference between success and failure for Brendan Rodgers and co.

“I think if he has an amazing season, Liverpool will be in the top four. It is a lot of pressure but that’s why they have paid the big money for him," he said.

"I think if he does have a big season, one of those seasons where everything you touch goes in, he will be very important."
