Stoke v Liverpool predicted lineups and match preview

Stoke Britannia Stadium

Liverpool return to the scene of their heaviest defeat in recent years, while Stoke will be hoping to keep their home patch a fortress.

To be played on Sunday 9th August 2015 at 16:00. Venue: Britannia Stadium, Stoke

Odds: Stoke 5/2, Draw 12/5, Liverpool 13/10

Naturally all of the build-up to this game will be focused on what happened the last time the two sides met, when Stoke dismantled Liverpool 6-1 on the final day of last season.

There is a lot of pressure on Brendan Rodgers to now get things right, and he has been busy in the transfer market as a result. If you look at their opening seven Premier League away games, this is perhaps the easiest on paper - which shows you how difficult the Reds' start is. Liverpool have only won one Premier League game from their seven visits to the Britannia Stadium - and on that day they still conceded three!

Stoke have their worries coming into this game, most notably that skipper Ryan Shawcross will miss out as he needs to have surgery on his back. His absence could play into the visitors' hands given the signing of burly forward Christian Benteke in the summer.

On a more positive note for the hosts, Bojan has been dropping hints suggesting that he could be fit for this weekend, but after such a long layoff, it could be something of a gamble to play him from the start.

Both sides have made a lot of changes to their sides, and the make-up of the two starting XI's from the end of May could well be very different.
