Report: Nottingham Forest midfielder Robert Tesche has broken metatarsal injury

Amex Stadium Brighton 2

The German looks set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up the injury this evening.

Nottingham Forest took on Brighton today, getting the Championship season underway at the Amex Arena.

In a tightly contested game, Forest did not have the killer instinct necessary as a goal from Kazenga LuaLua proved enough for Brighton to come away from the game with a 1-0 win.

The result in itself was bad enough for Forest, but now the news is bad on the injury front.

Robert Tesche, a player who looked set to play a big role at the club this campaign, came out of the action after a tackle from Beram Kayal in Sussex, and BBC Sport Nottingham is reporting that he has broken a metatarsal.

The challenge from the former Celtic man seemed innocuous at first, however, on second look, the Israeli left something of a trademark foot in on the German – who now looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

As far as Forest are concerned, this is terrible news.

They are under a transfer embargo this summer which means bringing in a new player is always going to be difficult. One player they would have liked to sign is Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner on loan. He however has a similar injury and is currently unavailable.

A metatarsal injury can either see a long-term absence, or indeed something quite short term.

Regardless, it is a headache Dougie Freedman did not need.
