Former Gunner Ray Parlour has explained he's confused by the way Tottenham Hotspur setup their pre-season friendly games.
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour told talkSPORT that he couldn’t understand why Tottenham Hotsput didn’t play friendly games against Real Madrid and AC Milan last month.
Parlour has questioned the planning behind the decision, suggesting that more thought should have gone into the process.
“There’s no doubt that it’s a very exciting two games for Spurs; playing Real Madrid and AC Milan but why didn’t they do this last month? – It’s not ideal because they’ve got a massive game at the weekend,” he told talkSPORT.
Why did Tottenham play late friendly games?
Predominantly for commercial reasons.
Top flight European football clubs operate in a world where they are run as a business first and a football club afterwards and unfortunately, that can create some questionable knock on effects.
However, football clubs are brands and Tottenham need to try and increase the size of their support base which will hopefully create some positive consequences in the near future.
Trust in the manager and the squad
The start of the Premier League season couldn’t be any tougher for Spurs with a match against Manchester United.
However, fans need to have faith in the manager and the squad that they will go into the game with a spring in their step, looking to prove a point and lay down a marker for the rest of the season.
It would send out a real message if Spurs could confine United to defeat in their first game with an impressive performance.
