Firmino signed for the Reds from Hoffenheim this summer.
Firmino was signed as something as a statement of intent from the club's owners in their backing for Brendan Rodgers, and Coutinho has been highlighting the qualities of a player who he shared a dressing room with during the recent Copa America tournament for Brazil.
He told the official Liverpool website: “Firmino is a great player and character – he was thoroughly welcomed by everyone in the dressing room. We can notice his skills by watching him in training.
“He’s a very intelligent player and everybody is glad about how he’s settled into the squad. I’m sure he will be of great help to Liverpool and will bring joy to our supporters.
“We’re all happy that he has chosen Liverpool as he’s an awesome player. I hope he can score many goals and help us.”
One of the reasons for Firmino's signing is the threat he provides in the final third, both when it comes to scoring goals and creating them. It's what is needed following on from a season where Liverpool only managed to find the net on 52 occasions.
He has made one appearance for the Reds over the summer, in a pre-season friendly win over Swindon Town, where he looked pretty lively. He may not be given the nod for the opening day trip to Stoke City but he could well influence the game from the bench as he begins to find his feet at Anfield, and will probably have more of an impact as the season goes on.
Intelligence and a goal threat is exactly what Liverpool need this season, and there is a lot of expectation on Firmino to deliver.
