Former Gunner Ray Parlour feels three midfielders are vital to the way Liverpool will play this season.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour named three players he feels will be vital to Liverpool’s success this season, when he appeared on talkSPORT.
Liverpool are facing an interesting and exciting season after manager Brendan Rodgers has made some very big moves in the transfer market.
However, Parlour has suggested it’s three midfielders who were already at the club who could hold the key to success.
“It’s going to be interesting to see how they get on this season because they’ve got a really strong midfield with Can playing that holding role – Henderson has got to really step up this season and they’ve got a great little player in Coutinho so there are players there who could do well,” he told talkSPORT.
Can and Henderson
Emre Can and Jordan Henderson have big and different roles to play, in terms of helping Liverpool to control games.
Can is likely to be the player that Rodgers uses to sit in front of his back four, offering a little more protection to the defence, as well as freeing up more creative midfield men to get forward and have an impact.
Henderson has a big role to play in terms of leadership, which is a side of former player Steven Gerrard that the team will really miss over the next few months.
Magic from Coutinho
Coutinho is arguably the midfielder, alongside new arrival Roberto Firmino, who will be expected to make things happen in attack.
He’s very good on the ball and someone who the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings will come to rely on through the season, not just the opening weeks and months.
