Manchester City fans have contrasting views as Manuel Pellegrini gets new deal

Mourinho & Pellegrini - Man City v Chelsea

The Chilean has been handed a new two-year contract by the Etihad Stadium outfit, much to the surprise of the club’s fans.

Manchester City have announced that manager Manuel Pellegrini has been handed a new two-year contract to remain at the club, as announced on the Citizens’ official website.

The Chilean trainer won the Premier League title in his first campaign in charge of the club in 2013-14, but the Etihad Stadium outfit looked nowhere near their menacing selves last season under his tutelage.

With City finishing 2014-15 without silverware, Pellegrini’s position was looking under threat, but Sheikh Mansour and the power brokers at the club have put their backing into the ex-Real Madrid and Malaga coach.

Talk has been doing the rounds that City are eyeing up Pep Guardiola as the team’s next manager - the Manchester Evening News among those to cover such rumours - with the Spaniard’s current deal at Bayern Munich expiring next summer.

As such, the majority of City fans on social media have reacted with confusion over Pellegrini’s term being extended. Others feel that it may well be a clever way of ensuring the team has a proven manager should Guardiola turn them down.

The Etihad Stadium faithful have been out on force on Twitter, with the best tweets surrounding the manager’s contract extension below.
