Jermaine Jenas gives his verdict on Arsenal’s title chances this season

Jermaine Jenas backs Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season and expects Arsenal to finish second.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas has told BBC Sport that Arsenal will not win the Premier League title this season.

However, the 32-year-old former England international believes that Arsene Wenger’s side are strong enough to push reigning Premier League champions Chelsea all the way.

“No - but I would say Arsenal are the most balanced team and best equipped to push Chelsea all the way,” Jenas told BBC Sport when asked about Arsenal’s Premier League title chances this season.

“Signing Petr Cech is really going to shore up their defence and could bring them an extra 5-10 points.

“They are the one team Mourinho will really fear this year and, if they can stay close to them throughout the season, Chelsea might react differently.”

Arsenal’s Premier League title chances

Arsenal have three of the best players in England in Petr Cech, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, and given their strong end to last season, fans should be optimistic.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City will be the other three challengers for the Premier League title this season, which means that the Gunners will find it extremely tough.

Over the years, Arsene Wenger’s side have not started their Premier League campaigns well.

If Arsenal make a strong start to this season, then they will certainly have a very good chance of claiming the title.

There is truly great quality in the current Arsenal squad; it is a matter of whether the players are able to be consistent.
