Gary Gardner wishes Forest luck on Twitter... fans plead for his return

The Aston Villa midfielder has been linked with a loan move back to the City Ground.

Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner still holds Nottingham Forest firmly in his heart following his loan spell at the Championship side last season.

Villa recently faced Forest in a thrilling friendly but the young midfielder had to sit out through injury. However, Gardner has recently been linked with a move back to Nottingham Forest on a temporary basis.

Indeed, Forest boss Dougie Freedman has said he wants to bring the 23-year-old back to the City Ground on loan, according to the Nottingham Post.

His decision to wish his old club luck ahead of their Championship opener on Twitter, then, sparked several fans into action over the Aston Villa man's near future. Gardner's injury may hold him back in terms of his battle to get into the Villa first team but Nottingham Forest are clearly still big admirers.

As such, several supporters responded to the 23-year-old on social media, pleading with Gardner to return to the City Ground on loan. The Aston Villa midfielder also wished his current club good luck ahead of their Premier League opener - but Forest fans cared more about his other tweet!
