Everton’s Kevin Mirallas was reportedly a summer transfer target for West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

As confirmed by their official website, Everton attacker Kevin Mirallas has signed a contract extension which ties him down at the club until 2018.

Plenty of speculation had surrounded the Belgian international’s future this summer, with talk in a number of media outlets suggesting a potential switch to a fellow Premier League rival was on the cards.

The Mirror in particular credited both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United with holding a strong interest, the latter reportedly tabling an offer in the region of £6 million for his services.

However, Mirallas has ultimately decided to remain with the Toffees, signing a three-year deal and expressing his eagerness to win a trophy with the club.

“I’m very happy. I’ve signed at Everton to win a trophy. I’m at a good team and I can continue my performances here,” he was quoted as saying by Everton’s official Twitter feed.

Mirallas joined the Merseysiders from Greek champions Olympiakos in 2012 and has gone on to represent the club 106 times in all competitions, scoring 28 goals.

Yet, arguably his most memorable moment in an Everton shirt came last January when he missed a first-half spot-kick in the 0-0 home draw with West Bromwich Albion and was then substituted at half-time.

It was a controversial moment as the Belgian attacker clearly undermined instructions to take the spot-kick ahead of regular taker Leighton Baines, though boss Roberto Martinez played down the situation.

In spite of that one incident, Mirallas has been a key member of the squad since joining the club and a number of supporters have taken to Twitter in order to express their delight at him staying.
