Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock stressed the importance of experienced duo Andy Reid and Chris Cohen when he spoke to Forest Player ahead of the club’s opening game of the Championship against Brighton this evening.
Forest are a team under a little bit of pressure because the stature of the football club suggests that they should be deeply involved in the battle for promotion into the Premier League.
A little bit of experience mixed into the team over the next few months will help, especially at a club like Forest where manager Dougie Freedman has shown signs of using some very talented youngsters in his first team.
“Yeah they will be like two new signings. Reidy has been magnificent since he came back to Forest and hopefully the sooner we can get him back the better,” he told Forest Player.
“Obviously Chris Cohen is a big player for the club, he’s the captain and hopefully we can make sure he comes back right and we’re looking forward to having the both of them.”
How will Reid and Cohen help Forest?
They will both provide good squad options but they will also be key figures during difficult patches of the season.
If Forest don’t get off to a good start in the Championship then it’s important that the experienced players step up to ensure that everyone remains calm and collected.
Younger players are more vulnerable to letting their heads drop during difficult patches and Reid and Cohen are the sort of players who can put an arm around the youngsters, keeping them motivated and inspired to produce their best for the side.
