The former Leeds striker grew up idolising Brian Deane.
Sharp took the number 10 shirt upon his arrival back at Bramall Lane, and has now revealed why he chose that number on Twitter.
He decided that ten was the number for him, because his hero growing up Brian Deane wore it for The Blades:
The Tweet even got a response from the man himself:
@billysharp10 I'm sure you will do the number 10 proud Billy. Good luck this season enjoy every minute .— Brian Deane (@deanobri1968) August 6, 2015
Deane, like Sharp, played for Sheffield United on three separate occasions. He joined the club from Doncaster Rovers in 1988, staying for five years. After a spell at Leeds he returned to The Blades before heading to Benfica.
He then had a short spell at the club to finish his career.
Deane, famous for scoring the first ever Premier League goal, bagged plenty of goals in his time at Sheffield United and Sharp will be hoping to finally do the same.
He has failed to shine in his previous two stints at the club and will be hoping for things to change in League One this season.
