A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours…

Villa have been linked with yet another Tottenham Hotspur player, with a £5 million bid for Aaron Lennon in the offing, according to the Daily Mail.

The 28-year old - who spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton - isn’t part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and looks certain to leave White Hart Lane this summer.

Veteran defender Joleon Lescott’s move to Villa could still be on despite an initial bid being turned down by the Baggies.

Sherwood is keen to add experience to his backline and sees the 32-year old as an ideal candidate, with a second bid being submitted yesterday, as reported in the Daily Mail.

Villa are among those being linked with a move for Salomon Rondon, so say VTV, and his agent has confirmed a ‘good offer’ from a Premier League side is on the table.

The 25-year old striker has been prolific for Zenit but Villa face competition from Newcastle United and West Ham United for his signature.

Meanwhile, Villa centre-back Ciaran Clark has spoken to AVTV of his excitement at the prospect of lining up alongside new captain Micah Richards in defence next season.

The Irishman, who recently signed a new deal, said: "It’s obviously very exciting to line up with such a top class defenders so hopefully over the season I’ll get plenty of chances to do that.”

Finally, Christian Benteke has hit back at Tim Sherwood over his claims that the former Villa striker will struggle at Liverpool, given the fact that the Reds produced the lowest number of crosses of any team in the league last season.

In quotes published by the Express, the big-money striker said: "I can score normal goals, too. I told him I am not afraid about it. If Liverpool bought me, then they know how to use me.

"That is why I came here. I can show I can play with my feet, too."
