West Ham got their first look at new midfielder Manuel Lanzini last night, as the side took on Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League.
The Argentine playmaker was part of an inexperienced side who lost in Romania, with the exit from the competition a potential blessing in disguise for the club's Premier League campaign.
Lanzini at least showed what he could do in the circumstances, scoring the side's only goal in a 2-1 loss on the night.
He is on loan from Emirates club Al Jazira, and will hope he has done enough to earn more chances for the first team, but it was not all positive for him.
Lanzini was culpable for Astra's first goal, giving the ball away to the opposition, but it is hard to be too harsh on him, and nor were watching supporters.
The reaction to his performance was positive, with Lanzini seen as one of the reasons to be cheerful on a night the club suffered defeat.
He showed energy in possession and was trying to make things happen, but found it tough with Modibo Maiga offering little up front in terms of movement.
Here is a look a what Hammers fans had to say about Lanzini's display...
Take some positives out of the game. I like the look of Lanzini. And I thought Poyet played well as well! #whufc— Foggy (@mickeyfogg108) August 6, 2015

Liking how Lanzini is looking here dangerous going forward and also is tracking back to defend could be a great find #COYI— Karl white (@Karl_W182) August 6, 2015
