Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor still holding out for capital switch as Aston Villa move stalls

Emmanuel Adebayor

HITC Sport understands that the Togolese striker wants to stay in London, as Spurs join the hunt for Charlie Austin.

Emmanuel Adebayor has stalled on a move to Aston Villa because he still hopes to join a London club this summer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to a long-running transfer saga.

The Togo striker was all set to seal a link-up with Tim Sherwood and Villa had thrashed out a deal that would have seen them pay his hefty salary, during a season-long loan.

But despite everything being agreed and him passing a medical, he has yet to put pen to paper as he holds out for a possible move within London.

Crystal Palace had previously been offered him as part of a deal for Yannick Bolasie, but they looked elsewhere and subsequently signed Patrick Bamford and Connor Wickham.

The one remaining realistic option would be West Ham United, who have a string of injuries and, like Palace, have had contact with Spurs over the player.

Tottenham themselves are furious as they are desperate to move Adebayor on, so they can pursue their own targets.

A source confirmed to HITC Sport: "Nobody is happy with Adebayor, Villa are on the brink of just pulling the plug and Tottenham are very, very unhappy as they could very well be left with him again this coming season when they thought they had sorted a deal out."

HITC Sport can confirm that Spurs have joined Newcastle United in making contact with Queens Park Rangers over Charlie Austin, whilst they have also made an approach to Lyon for highly-rated frontman Clinton N'Jie.
