Thierry Henry has, in the Evening Standard, backed Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez to improve on his debut season and win the Premier League Player of the Year award in 2015/16.
Following his arrival from Barcelona last summer, the Chile international took no time to adjust to his new surroundings at the Emirates, scoring 25 goals in 52 games on his way to winning the club’s award for player of the season.
Sanchez is expected to miss at least the opening game of the new campaign after his Copa America exertions, in which he helped Chile win their first ever international trophy following a penalty shoot-out victory over Argentina in the final.
Nonetheless, despite the Gunners needing to rest the 26-year-old, who has played 76 games since the start of last year’s World Cup, club legend Thierry Henry is confident that the Arsenal forward will improve again this term.
As reported by the Evening Standard, the former Gunners forward said: “I think the player of the season will be Alexis Sanchez. I’m just saying it because he has already had an amazing season."
“If Arsenal want to win the league he has to have that type of season [again], and I think he can.”
After a successful summer with his country, while watching his club land the Asia Trophy, Emirates Cup and Community Shield, Sanchez will be hoping to hit the ground running when he returns to first-team action.
Arsenal will fancy themselves as title candidates following a promising summer and, if the Chile international can weigh in with Player of the Season award-worthy form, Arsene Wenger's side will certainly have a good chance of winning silverware.
