Tottenham are reportedly pursuing Fenerbahce midfielder Raul Meireles.
According to Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are poised to meet with the agent of Raul Meireles over a potential move to White Hart Lane.
Spurs have only strengthened their defence so far this summer having landed Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer, but manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to add players in central midfield, out wide and up front before the transfer deadline.
Having sold Benjamin Stambouli, Etienne Capoue and Paulinho earlier this summer, Pochettino may need to add some experience in central midfield in a bid to help nurture youngsters Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason and Dele Alli.
Now, reports from Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio suggest that Spurs are looking at former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles, who would offer plenty of Premier League and European experience.
The 32-year-old is currently in Turkey with Fenerbahce, but is keen to leave the club according to the report from Di Marzio, with Tottenham now planning to meet with the player's agent to discuss a possible move back to the Premier League.
Three years after leaving Chelsea for Fenerbahce, Meireles could be in line for a surprise return to the Premier League, with Tottenham needing some veteran influence in midfield.
Given his disappointing displays for Liverpool and Chelsea, it's unlikely that many Tottenham would like to see Spurs sign Meireles, and his potential arrival would go against the young core of players Pochettino is building.
Yet with experience in the Premier League, the Champions League and on the international stage, Meireles could have a short-term role to play for Spurs if they do press ahead with such a move.
