Aston Villa reportedly want to sign the Colombian defender this summer.
The 22-year-old centre-back is reportedly the centre of interest from the Birmingham-based club, as Tim Sherwood looks to bring a ball-playing defender to his team.
Micah Richards, Ciaran Clark and Jores Okore are likely to be his three first choice centre backs this season, but bringing in a fourth will provide added cover and competition, whilst he is versatile enough to also play at left-back and in a holding role in midfield.
At his young age as well, Balanta can only develop from his already impressive abilities, meaning his signing would be a wise move by Sherwood, if he can convince his current club to sell.
Who is Eder Alvarez Balanta?
Balanta, 22, is a central defender who currently plays for River Plate in Argentina. His entire professional career has been spent with the giants of South American football, having started his youth career in a selection of academies in his homeland of Colombia.
He is regarded as one of the best young prospects in world football, and already has five caps for the Colombian national side, despite his young age.
It would be a coup for a club of Villa’s size to secure Balanta, with the Mail report claiming that Barcelona have been interested in him recently, and it would show that the Premier League strugglers still have the reputation to bring in players of real ability when they want to.
