Parlour feels the Rams have momentum based on the way they finished last season, with new manager Paul Clement having already overseen a number of positive changes to the squad for the new campaign.
That does create a little bit of pressure for the Rams, but they definitely have the infrastructure and support base needed to do well over the course of a long season.
“I think they ended last season really well – They’re definitely one of the teams I’m looking at in terms of who might go up this season,” he told talkSPORT.
A good start is important for the Rams
A good start is important for the club and for the manager.
The club need a good start so they can get into a good early position, build some momentum and send out a message to their main rivals in the process.
If the club can develop an early gap at the top of the table, they have the squad size to be able to make changes and stay effective through difficult periods of the season.
A good start also lifts the pressure away from Clement because the signings he’s made in the transfer window have already created a heavy level of expectation.
It’s also important considering this is Clement’s first job in terms of being in complete control of a team and he may feel he needs proof for himself and others, that he’s the man who can do the job.
