One defeat… Predicting Derby County’s first five Championship games

Derby County Huddle

We take a close look at Derby's Championship games against Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and Leeds United this month.

Bolton Wanderers v Derby County

Bolton Wanderers will not be an easy side to win against on the opening weekend of the season, especially as the Trotters are at home.

It will be a huge test for Derby, especially as they have made some big signings and will be expected to finish in the top two of the Championship this season.

Paul Clement’s side should have enough to register a narrow win at the Macron Stadium, but one should not be surprised if this game ends in a draw.

Prediction: 1-2

Derby County v Charlton Athletic

Derby should be able to win pretty comfortable against Charlton at the iPro Stadium. One should expect at least two goals from the Rams in this encounter.

Prediction: 3-0

Derby County v Middlesbrough

Both Derby and Middlesbrough will be aiming for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and this game promises to be a cracker.

Playing at home should give the Rams an advantage, but Boro have a team strong enough to pick up wins away from the Riverside Stadium.

A high-scoring draw could be the final result.

Prediction: 2-2

Birmingham City v Derby County

This will be yet another tricky away game for Derby, but one that Clement’s team should be able to win.

Prediction: 1-2

Derby County v Leeds United

Leeds United have a very good squad and will be looking to pick up maximum points from their game at the iPro Stadium.

The West Yorkshire outfit will be aiming for a top-six finish in the Championship, and to accomplish that, they need to show that they can take points off teams such as Derby.

A narrow win for Leeds could be the final result in this game.

Prediction: 0-1
