Do Everton already have solution to centre-back problems in Tyias Browning?

The 21-year-old has shown some great form in pre-season for The Toffees.

Much has been made this summer of Everton’s inactivity in the transfer market. Tom Cleverley arrived on a free and Gerard Deulofeu returned to the club. David Henen finalised his long awaited move but apart from that it has been an annoyingly quiet summer at Goodison Park.

One department in particular has been far too inactive.

The club need to bring in at least one new defender. Last season Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz were both poor and left on free transfers this summer. Phil Jagielka and John Stones have both had injury troubles in recent times, and the latter is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

The fact is, two central defenders is not enough to be successful in this league.

One at least is expected to arrive, but that might be all they need.

Could this season be Tyias Browning’s breakthrough campaign?

The 21-year-old local lad has represented England at youth level and last season made his Everton debut at right-back in a Merseyside Derby.

A strong and fast defender, with shades of Rio Ferdinand, Browning has bulked up in the past year and it has shown in pre-season – where he has looked a real talent.

Everton need to bring in one top centre-back, but with Browning coming through, that might just be all Roberto Martinez needs at the back.
