Aston Villa media round-up: Adebayor deal off, Townsend still a target

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

Villa have pulled out of a the running for Emmanuel Adebayor after the Togolese striker stalled over fears of becoming embroiled in a relegation battle, as per the Daily Mail.

Crystal Palace have now been alerted to his availability while the Villians will look elsewhere for attacking additions.

One striker who will not be joining, according to the same report, is former Spurs star Dimitar Berbatov.

The veteran forward had been linked with a Villa Park switch but the club have seemingly cooled their interest in the 34-year old.

Meanwhile, Spurs winger Andros Townsend could be set for a Tim Sherwood reunion, with the club holding out on Adama Traore while they wait to hear of the Tottenham man's availability, according to the Daily Mail.

The Villans had been linked with a move for the out-of-favour Spurs man earlier this summer and still appear to have retained an interest.

On the outgoing front, former Liverpool loanee Aly Cissokho has completed his season-long loan deal to Porto, as reported by Sky Sports.

Jordan Amavi’s arrival has left the French defender surplus to requirements and he now joins up with his old club.

Finally, Ciaran Clark has signed a new long-term deal at Villa Park, ending speculation over his future, as reported by the club's official site.

The Irishman has signed a five-year deal and is delighted with the outcome, stating:

"I'm absolutely thrilled to sign a new contract. I've been at Aston Villa since I was a kid and I want to continue to play for this fantastic football club.
