The Newcastle United legend responded to a follower on social media.
Alan Shearer has predicted a mid-table finish for Newcastle on Twitter after being asked how the club will do this season by a follower.
Indeed, the former Newcastle striker and current Match of the Day pundit doesn't foresee another relegation battle this term but, at the same time, doesn't envisage a spectacular debut campaign for Steve McClaren at St James' Park.
When asked how the 'mighty Toon' will do on social media, Shearer replied:
His prediction, of course, was mixed in with his wish that the Magpies take the cup competitions seriously this term. And the FA Cup or League Cup are naturally Newcastle's best hopes of a trophy during the domestic season.
But will the Tyneside outfit really do things differently to how they have already under Mike Ashley's reign? McClaren hasn't exactly sounded like an inspiring new alternative at St James' Park since taking over.
There's no reason the coach can't do well but he looks like a steady pair of hands, not a revolutionary who will play a full team in knockout tournaments and lose his rag if Newcastle are knocked out...
