Report: Sheffield Wednesday still keen on Charlton Athletic's Rhoys Wiggins; personal terms stumbling block

Charlton Athletic - The Valley

The left-back is all set for a move to Hillsborough, if they could agree on wages that is.

At the end of last month HITC Sport reported on the news that Charlton Athletic left-back Rhoys Wiggins looked set for a move to Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

That deal seemed to be on the verge of completion, but over a week later and still no move has been confirmed.

The Sheffield Star have now released more details over the potential move, which Wednesday are still hoping to force over the line in time for the start of the season this weekend.

They claim that the two clubs have agreed on a £750,000k fee for the player and that Wiggins passed a medical at Sheffield Wednesday’s training ground week.

However, the two parties have not yet managed to agree on personal terms on a deal with the report suggesting that Wiggins’ wages may be a stumbling block.

Wednesday need a new left-back after letting Joe Mattock leave on a free transfer this summer.

Wiggins has had a tough two years because of injury and Charlton are happy with their current left-back options, which has left them open to the sale of the player.

In other Wednesday news, Modou Sougou is expected to be announced as a new Owl within the week.
