Taking a closer look at Aston Villa's new left-back.
Aston Villa have signed so many new players this summer that their fans may not be sure exactly who to get the most excited about, but the answer to that question is simple: Jordan Amavi.
The 21-year-old arrived from French club Nice for an undisclosed fee, signing a five-year contract at Villa Park, and he has already shown during pre-season what he is capable of.
Amavi played 60 matches for Nice prior to his move, scoring four goals in that time, and while he will be something of an unknown quantity to the vast majority of Premier League supporters that is about to change.
He is simply outstanding going forward and while that is sometimes to the detriment of his defending, in time Villa manager Tim Sherwood will surely get the best out of the player at both ends of the field.
Amavi is not the only new signing to have impressed, with midfielder Idrissa Gueye also looking like a future fan favourite, but the full-back has been the standout performer to date and it will be interesting to watch him develop during his first five years at Villa.
He really does have the potential to become one of the best full-backs in the country and while he has only won three caps for France’s under-21 side to date do not be surprised if his move to Villa ultimately sees him earn a full cap for Les Bleus.
It looks like being a very exciting season for Villa and their fans and in Amavi they have a full-back guaranteed to excite while also playing an integral role in ensuring last season’s woes prior to Sherwood’s arrival are very much a thing of the past.
