The midfielder released by Queens Park Rangers this summer has been discussing the links with Leeds.
Joey Barton says there was never a realistic chance of him joining Leeds United that he knew about.
Indeed, the midfielder released by QPR this summer has been heavy linked with the Yorkshire club at certain points ahead of the new season, with the Yorkshire Evening Post among many others speculating that Leeds are interested.
His wage demands have always been suggested as a stumbling block, however, and the 32-year-old says there wasn't any genuine chance of him joining Leeds.
That said, Barton admits he is fully aware of how much many of Leeds United's supporters have wanted him to move to Elland Road...
That ties in rather well with the fact Leeds fans have been crowned Twitter's most vocal set of supporters, according to a study covered by the Daily Mail.
Barton's latest social media venture would suggest any chances of joining the Whites are now - and always were - minimal. The former QPR man would add fight, experience and a big name but United's current midfield is full of youth and promise.
Just like during his time at QPR, then, the consensus seems to be that plenty of Leeds fans would welcome Barton - but that there simply comes too much hassle and expense with his potential signing.
