The Italian striker has been linked with an Anfield exit all summer.
La Viola are in London to face Chelsea in a pre-season friendly later today but club officials will use the opportunity to meet with Liverpool after the game in a bid to hammer out a deal for the misfiring striker, before returning to Italy.
The 24-year old made just three Premier League starts last season and managed just one goal in all, and his departure has been a long time coming.
His spell with Sunderland - the season before last - was fairly successful but the striker turned down the chance to make the move permanent, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, believing he could force his way into first-team contention at Anfield.
Clearly, that didn’t happen last term, and the arrival of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and the returning Divock Origi mean it most certainly won’t happen next season either.
A move at this point is best for all parties and Liverpool will be hopeful that the talks tonight prove fruitful.
