LAST SEASON: Pedro vs Di Maria... (Picture via: Sky Sports) pic.twitter.com/ApsGLDJhMw— Top Corner (@HITCtopcorner) August 4, 2015
Pedro is expected to be Manchester United's replacement for Angel di Maria, with Spanish newspaper Sport reporting Louis van Gaal has made the Spaniard an offer he will not be able to refuse.
That entails first team football, a luxury he was not afforded with regularity at Barcelona last season, used mainly as a substitute.
He played in eight more games than Angel di Maria did last season, but played less minutes than the Argentine.
A lack of starts made it harder for Pedro to be productive, but he proved exactly that, scoring six goals to Di Maria's three.
He recorded a shot conversion rate closer to scoring one in every five attempts, while Di Maria's was below one in 10 attempts.
To Di Maria's credit, the former Real Madrid star came away with 10 assists last season despite talk of him 'flopping' in the Premier League - more than Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho (5), who was voted into the PFA team of the season.
Pedro managed six assists - which came in less minutes than Di Maria, but it must also be that little bit easier when it is Lionel Messi he had to pass to.
What the figures show is that Pedro is a better fit for United's need, with the club light in attack they need a clinical goalscorer, rather than a creator - with Memphis Depay ready to fill that void.
With Juan Mata ready to sparkle again too, Di Maria may well have been crowded out of United's best XI if he struggled to find his best form, while Pedro could be just the man to take advantage of the creativity on offer.
