Former England man Danny Murphy has explained there are two Aston Villa players he's got his eyes on this season.
“It will be interesting to see how Richards does coming back from a loan. He’s a big, powerful boy – The other interesting one is Gestede, who did well with Blackburn last year,” he told talkSPORT.
“When you bring in that many players, there is going to be a settling in period but we saw with Benteke at the end of last season, Villa know how to get that service into the box.”
A point to prove for Richards
Aston Villa snapped up Richards after he’d had a loan spell at Fiorentina last season. He put in some good performances for the Italian club, but it wasn’t enough to convince Manchester City that he was worth keeping.
That’s likely to have left something in the mind of the player, which means he’ll have a bit of extra determination to show that he can compete and be effective in the Premier League.
Aston Villa will benefit as a result and he’s also got plenty of years left ahead of him, which means he’s got a chance to become a key part of the club’s backline.
A new challenge for Gestede
The new challenge of Premier League football is going to be very interesting for Gestede.
He’s got power and is effective in their air, which suggests that he is capable of handling the challenge of playing top flight football in England.
However, it’s a gamble for Villa and it could be difficult for him to replicate the sort of impact Christian Benteke produced before his move to Liverpool.
