The Swedish full-back impressed in his role as Celtic progressed to the next stage of the Champions League qualifying rounds.
Celtic did the job they needed to as they held Qarabag to a 0-0 draw to progress to the next qualifying stage of the Champions League.
Their defence held out in the heat, and on a dodgy playing surface, with everyone playing their part.
One player who caught the eye was full-back Mikael Lustig, who seemed to be targeted by the home side who attacked down his flank, only for him to give them no quarter.
Lustig was excellent, and a contender for the man-of-the-match award, battling at both ends of the pitch as he tried to get forward and help Celtic push for a goal themselves.
The 28-year-old is a Swedish international but has struggled with injury. He played only five times in the league last season, 17 games in all competitions, hampered by an ankle problem, and told the Daily Record in mid-July that he expects to be on painkillers for the next 12 months, with the problem still not fully subsided.
Against Qarabag he appeared motivated and determined to make up for lost time, and the fact he made it through the entire game was not lost on Celtic fans
Here is a look at the reaction to his performance...
Phew. Horrible match but I'll take it. VVD and Lustig outstanding. A bit more composure and would have been easy street— Briandamage (@Briandamge64) August 5, 2015
YAAAASSS!!! Mikael Lustig played 90 minutes!!!— Gerry Pearson (@gerry_pearson) August 5, 2015
Well done @celticfc. They never looked like scoring. Lustig was superb. Great to have him back fit— Ryan McGregor (@Ryanmcg84) August 5, 2015
