Burnley turn attention to Blackburn's Grant Hanley in defender search

HITC Sport understands the Clarets are considering an approach for the Scotland international as they seek to replace Jason Shackell.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Burnley are eyeing a move for Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley.

The Clarets are in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Jason Shackell to Championship rivals Derby County.

Sean Dyche intends to address that issue as a matter of urgency, with the 2015/16 campaign kicking off this weekend.

Hanley has been identified as a top target and an approach from Burnley to their North West rivals could be on the cards.

The 23-year-old would be a useful addition for the present and future as he is already a seasoned domestic and international performer.

A product of Blackburn’s academy system, the commanding centre-half has made over 150 appearances for Rovers, is club captain at Ewood Park and has been capped on 17 occasions by Scotland.

Blackburn are still working under the restrictions of a transfer embargo and will have to part with someone before the deadline if they are to have those sanctions lifted.
