Tottenham have won a trophy at last... but it's not really one to savour.
Tottenham Hotspur have ended their pre-season by winning silverware - but whether they choose to bring it back to the UK is another matter.
They were awarded a trophy after beating AC Milan 2-0 in the third/fourth place play-off of the Audi Cup, a tournament in which only four teams participated.
Spurs had been defeated 2-0 a day earlier by Real Madrid, with former player Gareth Bale scoring against them.
The players were gathered to an official presentation after the game with the trophy - but one fan took to Twitter to urge the club to give it back to save taunts from rival fans.
It was too late...
Arsenal supporters had already noticed, and begun mocking Spurs on Twitter - with the club not winning a 'real' trophy since the League Cup in 2008.
Audi actually gave Tottenham a trophy for finishing 3rd in the tournament. Spurs players look so happy.— Osman (@OsmanZtheGooner) August 5, 2015
Hahahhahahaahah spurs won a 3rd place trophy and look at how happy they look bless them hahahaha— hardcöre gööner (@ArsenalDenham) August 5, 2015
Spurs are exhausting all energy to win #AudiCup 3rd place 72hrs to their Bpl kickoff and some one tells me Community Shield isn't a trophy.— Ahmad AFC (@Village_Gunner) August 5, 2015
Arsenal of course are hot on the heels of their own pre-season treble, winning the Barclays Asia Trophy, the Emirate Cup, and Community Shield.
None of these matter of course, but at least these were trophies Arsenal 'won', as opposed to finishing third... but it should not be forgotten that it was not so long ago the Gunners were themselves ripped mercilessly by opposition fans for celebrating finishing fourth place in the Premier League like it was a piece of silverware.
