Celtic manager Ronny Deila has told the Glasgow Evening Times about what he’s sure of happening with Leigh Griffiths this season.
The Norwegian has stressed the importance of his top scorer from last season and has dismissed the idea that his status in the squad has changed.
Nadir Ciftci was signed earlier in the transfer window and represents someone who could prevent Griffiths from enjoying regular playing time in the Bhoys attack over the course of the next season.
“It is more important that we have Leigh fit and with us – it would be a much bigger headache if he did not make it,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.
“He has done very well. He is scoring goals and his attitude is good. He will get lots of games this season, that is for certain.”
Why is Griffiths so important for Celtic?
Griffiths will get plenty of playing time this season because he’s a very experienced striker and knows how to get the best out of himself based on the current players in the side, supporting him from midfield.
He showed he could be effective across all competitions for the Bhoys last season and he’s already opened his account in domestic action this season, which is important with Ciftci banned for another five games.
He needs to try and create a situation for himself where he stays at the top of the pecking order and makes it as difficult as possible for Ciftci to get into the team, when he’s back available for the side.
For now, Griffiths’ job is to take his chances and ensure that he leads the attack effectively.
