Emmanuel Adebayor's switch from Tottenham to Aston Villa is getting closer.
There has been a break through in Aston Villa's efforts to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, report The Times.
The Togo international is not in Tottenham Hotspur's first team plans, and has been left out of their pre-season matches.
Adebayor was claimed to be close to a move to Villa last week, but news on the deal had gone quiet.
The Times.report this morning: "Emmanuel Adebayor, the Tottenham Hotspur striker, was close to completing a move to Aston Villa last night, a week after the clubs agreed a deal."
The deal appears a positive one for Spurs fans as the club will shift a high earner off their books, who is not required.
For Aston Villa on the other hand, the success of the transfer will depend on not just whether Adebayor can re-capture his best form, but how long he can maintain it, given his reputation for starting off well at clubs before going off the boil.
He will rejoin manager Tim Sherwood, who coached him at Spurs, although pending completion of the deal it remains to be seen if he will be anything more than a substitute at best for Villa's Premier League opener away to Bournemouth, given his largely non-existent pre-season.
