The Senegal international has previously been linked with Celtic and West Ham United.
Celtic were also said to be keeping tabs on the Jupiler Pro League player - as per reports from STV Sport - but it now appears that the Foxes have firmed up their interest and jumped to the front of the queue with an official bid.
Things are starting to move on the transfer front for Leicester after a frustrating early part of the window and yesterday saw the double signing of N’Golo Kante and Yohan Benalouane - as announced on the club's official website.
They add to the previous arrivals of Robert Huth, Christian Fuchs and Shinji Okazaki and point to a Leicester squad starting to take shape.
What would Mbodj add?
The 6”3 defender would bring power and athleticism to the Foxes side, whether deployed alongside Huth in defence or next to Kante in midfield.
His height offers welcome variety alongside Kante’s stockier, more explosive build and the two together would provide a solid platform for the more creative types ahead to express themselves.
While not the most technical of players, Mbodj has all the physical tools required to be a real powerhouse in Leicester's midfield as they look to consolidate themselves in the Premier League.
