Newcastle United fans respond to Robbie Savage's relegation prediction

Robbie Savage has predicted Newcastle will face relegation... now the fans have had their say...

Outspoken pundit and former Welsh international midfielder Robbie Savage is unafraid to ruffle a few feathers.

He has risked ridicule by making a particularly bold prediction for the new season, tipping Newcastle United to be one of the three sides relegated from the Premier League in 2015/16.

Speaking to Breathe Sport, Savage said that he is unconvinced new manager Steve McClaren has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League.

He feels the former Eredivisie title winner, and ex-England boss, faces real questions after his failure to get Derby County in the Championship play-offs last season, from a position when it had seemed like a certainty.

Savage also cited Newcastle's summer signings of Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba will raise expectations too highly, for a side which only scraped survival last season under the disastrous management of John Carver.

Newcastle United fans have of course been having their say in response, critical of Savage's prediction.

Bob Burton: "What a fool. I can't imagine for one second that any Toon fans will lose any sleep over his opinion. The only people who will enjoy this prediction are the sad individuals who've allowed Ashley to get into their weak heads and now hate Newcastle as if it is Ashley. The majority of whom don't go to games and seldom have. I notice one such clown has commented already, wishing the club the worst as usual. I will willingly take Robbie's bet on the subject if he cares to put his money where his mouth is? Like taking candy off a baby."

William New Carney: "I don't like Savage one little bit but I wouldn't totally disagree with him on this subject, we still have so many bad players in our squad, we need more new faces or I'm afraid this could be our last season in the premier league, which might not be a bad thing if it eventually gets Ashley to sell up."

King Trax: "Who cares what Savage says anyway?"
