Mourinho's comments about Azpilicueta suggest Rose would be crazy to leave Tottenham

Chelsea have been linked with a Tottenham Hotspur player, but why would he go there given recent comments from Jose Mourinho?

According to a report from the Mirror Chelsea want to sign Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose this summer and have told Mauricio Pochettino’s side to name their price.

Chelsea are said to be prepared to pay £15million for the left-back…which is less asking a club to name their price and more putting a cap on what you are willing to pay, but there is another big reason why Rose would be wise to stay exactly where he is.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed Cesar Azpilicueta as “the best left-back in England” and whatever you think about that comment, the Spaniard has already made short work of Filipe Luis’s challenge for a regular starting spot.

The Brazilian lasted only one season at Stamford Bridge before heading back to La Liga after featuring just 26 times for Chelsea in all competitions and only 15 times in the Premier League.

For that reason alone the Tottenham full-back should be wary. After all, if he moves to a club whose manager thinks he already has the best player in that position, what chance Rose usurping him regardless of his previous performances and ability on the training field?

Then there is the fact that Rose has made the left-back spot his own at White Hart Lane despite the challenge of Ben Davies.

Why would he give that up for what could well be a prolonged stint on the least in the league and in Europe?

It is far better that Rose remains at Tottenham where he has blossomed, at a side where the future looks very bright considering their recent signings and the next wave of talent coming through the ranks.
