The Manchester City youngster could be heading on loan, with Leeds United and Bolton reportedly interested.
Speaking to Manchester City’s website after signing a new contract, Brandon Barker admitted that spending time on loan will be useful for his development this season, as he looks to bring his game on to be good enough for City.
The young winger said: “If I do spend time out on loan, I’ll do my best to help that club while bringing my own game on. If that happens, I’ll grow as a player and then I can use that to benefit my future at City – the end goal will always be geared to progressing here.”
The 18-year-old is highly rated in the City academy system, and the new four-year deal he has signed ensures that the youngster’s future will be with the club.
However, he needs to ensure that he plays consistent competitive football to continue his development, and a loan to a Championship side has been mooted in recent weeks.
City were unwilling to sanction a deal until Barker’s future was sorted out, and although interest has waned in recent days, both clubs could return with a loan offer now that Barker himself sounds keen on a deal.
Whichever club manages to strike a deal with the winger will be signing a player of real promise, and although he is early in his development, and is far from the finished product, Barker certainly looks to have all the talent to impress in the Championship right now.
