The Foxes had previously been quiet in regards to transfer activity this summer, yet Claudio Ranieri and his men have decided to make a bit of a splash in the week leading up to the opening game of the season.
Aside from Benalouane arriving, Ngolo Kante has also joined the club from Caen and talks are ongoing in regards to Napoli defensive midfielder Gokhan Inler, according to Sky Sports Italia.
Benalouane is a versatile defender and third defensive signing the Foxes have made this summer after seeing Christian Fuchs and Robert Huth arrive on permanent deals.
The 28-year-old was a key member of Atalanta’s side last season, starting 25 Serie A matches and averaging an impressive 2.1 interceptions and 4.9 effective clearances per encounter.
He will be expected to come in and provide heavy competition to Leicester’s backline, with the view of perhaps replacing the 31-year-old Wes Morgan the moment he acclimatises to English football.
Benalouane was born in France and is eligible to play for Tunisia, although he has so far yet to do so despite being offered a call-up on two separate occasions.
He will provide plenty of experience at the King Power Stadium and is renowned for stepping out of defence, instigating attacks from deep and distributing well from the back.
Here is a selection of comments from Leicester supporters on Twitter on hearing the news of his signing:
Happy to hear Kante & Benalouane have signed today. Sound exactly like the type of players we need: pace, strength & power #LCFC— Tom Warner (@Warnerbro) August 3, 2015
The prices we've paid for both Benalouane & Kante are extremely decent in this current market. Could turn out to be absolute bargains #lcfc— Tom. (@tommmjennings) August 3, 2015
With benalouane signing i can see wes not being in the team, not that I'm complaining #lcfc— justin (@whelband) August 3, 2015
Delighted with Kante, Benalouane needs to prove himself for me but add Inler and that'll be great business! #lcfc— will (@WillCockerill) August 3, 2015

Benalouane could turn out to be a good signing for Leicester but the track record for signing from Serie A to the EPL is not in their favor.— Sami Mustapha (@Sami_mustapha) August 3, 2015
