Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool have overtaken Tottenham

Mourinho Press Conference Still

Chelsea boss believes Liverpool's investment has elevated them to become a top five club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool are a title contender this season.

The Portuguese boss was interviewed by SkySports earlier today, and agreed they are a top five club, with Tottenham Hotspur on the outside looking in.

He was asked by Jim White who are the title contenders, with Liverpool posed as a possibility along with last season's top four.

He agreed, commenting: "I believe so, I believe the top five are the top five.

"I think why not a club like Tottenham Hotspur who can try to get there, but in the end are the top five with the responsibility (to succeed)."

He added: "Arsenal are a fantastic team, and Liverpool have made amazing investment."

Mourinho feels that the money spent brings pressure to succeed and this puts Liverpool into the conversation as title challengers, with Spurs on the outside looking in.

This is despite Tottenham finishing above Liverpool last season, landing fifth place by two points after the Reds suffered a late collapse.

It was a disappointing season for Liverpool, just a year removed from a genuine title challenge inspired by Luis Suarez.

Liverpool have bought well this summer, with Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke big name additions.

Put those two in the Tottenham side instead, and it would surely be the North Londoners who Mourinho would be tipping as title contenders instead.
