Ian Selley suggests the main benefit Petr Cech creates for Arsenal

Former Arsenal player Ian Selley has suggested what he sees as the main benefit created by Petr Cech for the Gunners.

Former Arsenal player Ian Selley told talkSPORT that he feels the main difference Petr Cech has made to the Gunners is improving the mentality at the back of the team.

The ex-Gunner has suggested that Cech is someone who gives the whole back four the confidence needed to ensure that they can see out difficult periods over the coming season, while suggesting the club will feel confident, regardless of the players signed by their main rivals.

“Cech coming in I think mentally makes a difference to the back four; having someone who has been there and done it, I think will give them confidence – Looking at the business the other clubs have done player-wise, I think Arsenal must feel very confident,” he told talkSPORT.

Communication is the key

Communication is the key for Cech and Arsenal’s defence to be a strong and collective unit over the coming season.

Cech is superb in terms of organising a back four based on what he sees developing in front of him and it’s important that continues.

He can tell someone when they’re drifting out of position as well as advising the defence on the position of their line, which was an issue which so often got the Gunners into trouble last season.

Arsenal should feel confident

Arsenal are right to feel confident because with everyone fit and their best side available, it’s difficult to see many sides getting the better of them.

However, keeping everyone fit is going to be the real test because the cupboard is empty in one or two positions should the first choice player pick up a problem.

Francis Coquelin is a good example but there is still plenty of time left to run in the transfer window.
