Gary Lineker explains where he thinks Tottenham will finish in the league this season

The ex-striker has predicted where his former club Tottenham Hotspur will finish this season.

The London Evening Standard has published comments from Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, in which he explained where he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will finish this season.

The former Spurs striker scored 67 goals during his time at White Hart Lane and having seen how Premier League clubs have strengthened so far this summer, the 54-year-old believes Tottenham fans should not be getting too excited about a potential top-four finish.

Spurs have strengthened their back-line by bringing in Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier and they are also likely to strengthen both in midfield and up front before the transfer window closes.

But Lineker still believes there are four clubs who will finish above them in the form of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.

In an interview published by the Standard, Lineker said, “It’s always more difficult if you’re involved in the Europa League and so you would fancy Tottenham finishing in a similar sort of position to last season (fifth).”

The former England international went on to suggest that Liverpool are in a similar boat to Tottenham and that both will struggle to qualify for the Champions League.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but with an experienced head in midfield and a quality striker to support Harry Kane, there could yet be a twist in the tale as Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino seeks to prove Lineker wrong.
