Aston Villa media round-up: Adebayor deal edges closer, Berbatov talks confirmed

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s protracted White Hart Lane exit inched closer yesterday, according to a report in The Times.

The Tottenham striker’s move to Villa has seemed imminent since last week and the report states finalisation of the deal was close last night after the clubs agreed terms.

Another striker with Spurs links, Dimitar Berbatov, has also been in talks with the Villains as confirmed by former Villa midfielder – now coach - Stiliyan Petrov.

Speaking to the Express, Petrov said of his former international teammate:

“There were talks but I can’t reveal you anything at the moment. It’s a nervy period for Berbatov, his agent and Villa and they’ll be the first to announce if there’s something.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona youngster Adama Traore has been giving permission to speak to a number of Premier League clubs. Including Villa, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The pacey winger had looked odds on to join Liverpool but a move to Anfield would no longer appear to be a foregone conclusion.

Meanwhile, Villa face fresh competition for rumoured target Dennis Praet, according to HLN.

The Anderlecht attacking midfielder has reportedly been the subject of £7.7 million bid from Midlands rivals West Brom, but neither club are willing to match the Belgian's £10.5 million asking price.

Finally, new signing Jordan Veretout spoke to the club’s official site about his joy at his Villa switch and his determination to make it a success.

“It's an exciting time for the football club and I am delighted to be part of it. I am proud to be involved in this new start.”

“The coach has put a lot of belief in me by buying me for this huge club. I hope to deliver for him now on the pitch and repay that faith.”
