According to a report in the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Everton have tabled a bid for Napoli’s in-demand defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Toffees have been fairly quiet on the transfer front this summer with the majority of their activity involving players leaving the club, such as defenders Silvan Distin and Antolin Alcaraz.
With John Stones attracting heavy interest from Chelsea too, boss Roberto Martinez has seemingly singled out the centre-back positions as an area in need of bolstering.
With reports in the Mirror claiming Wolves’ Kortney Hause is a potential target, fresh news from Italy state Napoli’s Koulibaby is also another name they are actively seeking to acquire.
Ronald Koeman’s side have been a touch unfortunate regarding their defence this summer, first Toby Alderweireld joining Tottenham Hotspur and then Florin Gardos sustaining a long-term injury.
What would Koulibaly offer?
The 24-year-old is a tough-tackling, dominant defender who stands at an imposing 6ft 5inch and boasts plenty of top level experience despite his relatively young age.
Former Napoli boss Rafa Benitez was a keen admirer of Koulibaly, regularly selecting him for first-team duties as the former Metz ace last season racked up a total of 27 Serie A appearances.
The Saints have plenty of things going for them at present, not least European football, therefore if Everton are serious about signing Koulibaly they may need to step up their intentions over the next few days.
