Real Madrid announce Audi Cup squad to face Tottenham: Ronaldo and Benzema absent

Ronaldo Strikes

Spurs meet the Spanish giants at 17:15 BST tomorrow, for the opening game of the Audi Cup tournament.

Tottenham have been handed a boost to their chances of overcoming Real Madrid tomorrow with the news that Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have both failed to make the squad.

The full squad, as confirmed on the club’s official site, includes former Spurs men Gareth Bale and Luka Modric but Ronaldo and Benzema both miss out through injury.

Ronaldo’s absence is reportedly due to him ‘suffering lower back pain’ in the club’s last training session, while Benzema has ‘overloaded his right thigh’.

The tournament will also see Bayern Munich take on AC Milan with the losers of both games meeting for a third-place play-off on Wednesday, and the winners meeting for the final later that evening.

Spurs are set for about as stern a test as it’s possible to have in pre-season and face a trip to Old Trafford just three days after their final match, raising questions over whether the club’s pre-season schedule is the most advisable.
