Connor Wickham featured for Crystal Palace tonight.
Crystal Palace's pre-season preparations came to an end this evening as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Dagenham & Redbridge.
A late goal from trialist Aaron McLean gave Dagenham the win at Victoria Park, meaning Palace head into the Premier League season on the back of a defeat.
It was an experimental side named by manager Alan Pardew, with a host of youngsters and fringe players named in the starting XI - though there was a start for Connor Wickham.
The striker completed his move from Sunderland to Selhurst Park earlier today, becoming Palace's leading striker ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old started the game against Dagenham - as seen above - and played 45 minutes before being substituted at half time, with Pardew no doubt saving him for the game against Norwich City this weekend.
Despite just six goals last season, Wickham will now be expected to spearhead the Palace attack this coming season, with Pardew aiming to nail down a place in the top half of the Premier League table.
Wickham needs to improve on his goal tally from last season, and with service from the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Wilfried Zaha and new signing Yohan Cabaye, he may well be able to score the goals to land Palace in the top ten this season.
