Newcastle reportedly not interested in Andy Najar despite claim from his homeland

A Newcastle United move for Anderlecht's Honduras international has been ruled out by the latest report.

According to a report from Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are not interested in signing Anderlecht midfielder Andy Najar despite claims from his homeland to the contrary.

A story from the print copy of Honduran newspaper MAS (cited in the report) claimed Newcastle were planning on making it a hat-trick of signings from the Belgian club but Chronicle Live has dismissed the claims outright.

Najar is a right-sided midfielder who can also play as an out-and-out winger of a right-back if required. He has featured 75 times for Anderlecht to date, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in that time, while he has also been capped 28 times for Honduras.

Newcastle have already signed Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht this summer but it is being reported that there is no truth in the latest rumour.

It is suggested that Newcastle are working hard on other potential deals behind the scenes before the transfer window closes, but that Najar is not a target.

Given the Magpies’ recent business with Anderlecht it would be easy to link other players with the same move, but on this occasion it is claimed there has simply been a little overexcitement in the player’s homeland and Najar will not be arriving at St James’ Park any time soon.

Newcastle have signed three impressive players so far this summer, and with a couple more additions in the right areas they could have a great campaign under new manager Steve McClaren.
