Fabricio Coloccini speculation

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has told The Sun that Fabricio Coloccini wants to remain at the club.

According to the British tabloid, Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are interested in signing the Argentina international defender this summer.

The 33-year-old centre-back did not feature in any pre-season friendly match for the Magpies due to an Achilles injury.

McClaren has now made it clear that he wants Coloccini to remain part of his squad for the 2015-16 campaign.

The former Derby County and Nottingham Forest manager has also stated that the former Deportivo La Coruna star wants to end his career at Newcastle.

“He has a year left on his contract and Newcastle has always been his preferred choice,” the Englishman told The Sun.

“He is coming towards the end of his career and he wants to finish it here. Those are the kind of words I like to hear.”

Coloccini has been on the books of Newcastle since 2008 and is also the team captain.

Ivan Toney update

The Sun has also reported that Ivan Toney will undergo a medical at Newcastle today.

According to the British tabloid, the Magpies will pay Northampton Town a transfer fee of £300,000 for the services of the 19-year-old striker.
