Liverpool media round-up: Rodgers impressed with new boys, Ojo set for loan move

Anfield Night

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.

Liverpool concluded their preparations for the new season with a 2-1 win over Swindon Town yesterday, which saw new signing Christian Benteke mark his debut in some style, and Sheyi Ojo managing to get on the scoresheet.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was impressed by both Benteke, and fellow summer signing Roberto Firmino who made his fist appearance for the club.

He told the club's website after yesterday's game: "Christian's goal was incredible, whether it was a pre-season friendly or in a league or cup game. It was wonderful technique from the big guy."

On Firmino, Rodgers added: "You see his quality. He is really bright on the ball, has got wonderful technique and has got the ability to want to get forward and score a goal.

"For those players it was just getting them into that game situation, which is never easy as they have only been back a week or so. But they adapted and coped very well."

It wasn't all good news for Liverpool though as Joe Allen was taken off in the early stages of the game with a hamstring injury. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Welshman is likely to miss the start of the season, and is set for a scan on the injury today.

The Daily Mirror reports that yesterday's match winner Sheyi Ojo is set to move to Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan.

Ojo spent much of last season on loan with Wigan Athletic, and the report indicates that Liverpool are keen for the player to get some regular first team experience.
